Bernadine Welch, a 36 year educator with the McComb School District, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010. The McComb School District is deeply saddened by the news of Mrs. Welch’s passing. Mrs. Welch was loved and respected by all those who knew her, and the students who had her in class have been profoundly touched by this tragedy. Mrs. Welch began teaching with the McComb School District in 1973. She touched the lives of so many students, faculty and staff members.

Sissy Burris, long time friend and colleague said, “I did my student teaching under Mrs. Welch. She was my mentor, my teacher, and my friend – a # 2 wash tub would not do.”

Another colleague and friend, Lou Warren said, “Mrs. Welch was a teacher who did her best to help any student or teacher if you asked. She never said, “ I don’t have time or I’m too busy”. Mrs. Welch could find any form needed and show you how to complete it. She smiled lovingly at students and chastised students who were not doing their best. If Mrs. Welch were your teacher, you knew you had been taught all the skills. She was an immense help to me. I loved her dearly and miss her very much. I truly depended on her so many times to help me with all the “stuff” we have to do.”

Ruby Husband, Assistant Superintendent, and former principal of Denman Jr. High School said, “Mrs. Welch was one of my first friends when I moved to the McComb School District as principal. She was one of the teachers that I could always count on. I knew she would always be there. One of my fondest memories is when she sent me her first email. We laughed often about that. She became the guru on electronic grade books. Mrs. Welch could always be counted on to take an active part in our school improvements efforts. I will miss my friend.”

Superintendent Therese Palmertree said, Mrs. Welch was a committed and loyal educator and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the staff, and faculty of the McComb School District, I express my deepest sympathy to her family. The results of Mrs. Welch’s outstanding teaching and her tremendous influence on students will live on."
